Pistachio Nutella with Serrano *RECIPE*
It's officially FALL now, which means the beginning of cooler weather (well, not so much in LA and SoCal quite yet.. but we're ready for it!), the Holidays, and all the delicious, festive treats that are part of the season!At this time of the year, many of us are concerned with honoring our health and well-being, while still indulging and celebrating our blessings. Here at The 40 Day Green Cleanse, we love any opportunities to come up with new recipe ideas that never skimp on nutrition AND TASTE! One of our beloved Cleansers, Gimmy "Lou" Somor (see our past post on his inspired 40 Day Green Cleanse experience) recently shared with us (as he was just done with his cleanse) his creative and super-healthy take on a Pistachio and Coconut-oil Nutella, spiked with Serrano!Pistachios (our favorite nut on the program) are enriched with many health-benefiting nutrients essential for optimum health, such as Vitamin E, copper, manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and selenium; in addition, recent research is showing that Pistachios regulate and balance the production of the hormone adiponectin, which plays a key role in regulating the body's ability to burn fat. The coconut oil in the recipe is high in HDL, promotes a healthy heart by converting the bad "LDL" cholesterol into necessary, good cholesterols, (among its many other benefits), and the Serrano chile fires up the metabolism, helps with a sluggish circulatory system, contains Capsaicin and boosts the immune system.
AND
My personal favorite ingredient here is cacao! "Some days you just need to find your bliss – cacao is one of the healthiest foods, you can consume. Cacao contains the mood improver, anandamide – known as the bliss molecule, which creates a feeling of euphoria."
Here is Gimmy's very unique recipe that has been approved as a level 4"sweet" option while cleansing with our program. We hope you enJOY this as much we did! THE INGREDIENTS:
2 cups pistachios, soaked the night before for best digestion + best nutrient absorption.
9 tbsp coconut oil
5 tbsp organic unsweetened cocoa/cacao powder
2 tbsp organic carob powder
1/3 cup raisins
3 or 4 little Serrano chile peppers (can be left out)
Suggestions/tips:On occasion I sub coconut oil for culinary coconut milk and I add stevia or a healthy sweetener to taste- Yve
THE PREP:Use a food processor to blend the pistachios until they form a nut butter. Add 1/4 cup of coconut oil or milk along with the remaining ingredients, and continue to add in more until the desired consistency is achieved. Blend until mixture is creamy and smooth. Add more coconut milk/oil if needed.Store in fridge and can be kept up to 2 weeks.Cut down portions by half if a smaller quantity is desired.
